About
I'm Scott Finney. Most people online know me as finnious — a nickname I picked up at Auburn and never managed to shake.
I live in Memphis, Tennessee. I build business systems for a living, ride bikes further than is strictly reasonable, and use this site to write down what I'm figuring out.
The ride
In 2017 I rode a bicycle 3,333 miles across the United States, from Seattle to the steps of the Capitol in Washington, D.C. It was the Journey of Hope, a ride my fraternity Pi Kappa Phi runs through The Ability Experience to raise money and awareness for people with disabilities.
Nine months before the start, my longest ride ever was 26 miles and I weighed 266 pounds. I lost about 70 of them getting ready. That ride changed the shape of my life, and I've written the whole thing up here.
In 2019 I was badly hurt in a training crash. Recovery has been a long project and it turns up throughout what I write in Health. I'm planning to ride again in 2027.
Work
I'm the founder of Creating Value LLC, where I work as a fractional CTO for established multi-location B2B operations — turning the data a business already generates into reports its team acts on. I'm also Director of SEO at Drop The Strap Marketing, and I run WeAddBots, a weekly AI meetup for Memphis businesses.
Those are the businesses. This site is the person. If you're here for commercial work, the links above are the right doors.
The rest of it
I'm an Auburn graduate and a lifelong Pi Kappa Phi. I'm married to an Ole Miss grad, which makes football season complicated. I practice yoga, I'm learning guitar badly, and I see live music whenever I can — especially Phish.
I drink a great deal of coffee, usually Ethiopian beans, and I have opinions about it. I'm interested in AI, blockchain, and whatever else looks like it might matter in five years.
